Post-Exhibition Post
Well, I’m running a bit behind schedule with this blog thing. I had intended to create this follow-up post once the Viewfinder exhibit at the Dent Gallery came down on October 6. Unfortunately, the last few weeks have been swallowed up by dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. As the saying goes… better late than never.
I’d first like to thank Sam Mitchell at Spartanburg Day School for inviting me to be a part of this exhibit. It was such an honor to be asked to submit work alongside some of my favorite Spartanburg photographers. Wendy McCarty, Tim Kimzey, Carroll Foster, Ian Curcio, and Mike Corbin are all pros in the truest sense of the word.
I just thought I’d share the images that were included in the show for those who didn’t make it out. The prints were all 16x20, or 20x16, printed on gloss metallic paper. The quality of the prints turned out even better than I expected thanks to the great job by Spartan Film Lab. The digital images here just aren’t the same thing, but you can click on the thumbnails to get a better idea.
Several people who saw the show stated that they didn’t understand the meaning behind the titles, which probably means that many more didn’t understand the meaning and didn’t say anything. As explained in my artist statement in the previous blog post, these images are from a collection of photos I’ve taken on “coffee walks” in various cities. Each photo is titled with the date on which the photo was taken, the coffee shop that was visited, and the city where the photo was taken.
I hope you enjoy these. I still have a few of “the real thing” available, in case you’d like to see them in-person or make a purchase. Feel free to comment below or message me on instagram @CookseyPics.
